The face of the feminine

Kuan Yin ~ Goddess of Compassion

Kuan Yin ~ Goddess of Compassion

After one of my Awakening the Sacred Feminine journeys I received an e-mail from one of the initiates asking me a very important question: Where can I find a role model for the sacred feminine. And what does it truly mean to embody being a woman and embracing the divine feminine?
This lady, like so many other women I have worked with, realised that she had been rejecting her feminine aspect, and subsequently part of herself, since her old definition of the feminine was weakness, emotional instability and dependency on the masculine. On this healing journey she was now ready to embrace and emulate a healthy role model of the divine feminine…. Where is this role model in our society?

This is a profoundly important question and subject for us to pay attention to, especially for all our daughters, future mothers and leaders, who currently have the distorted photo-shopped, patriarchal, “celebrity” version as role model. This dysmorphic example is one of unattainable perfection, distorted sexual objectification as acknowledgement, which consequently creates a collective low self-worth.

I saw a powerful question on Facebook the other day, it said: If all women started loving their bodies today, how many industries would close down tomorrow?

There are so many different Archetypes for the Divine Feminine, and luckily she is being reborn into modern day healthy examples. The Divine feminine has so many different reflections, it is difficult to pinpoint one facet which defines her.
The feminine does not want to be boxed into one role, or seen as only kind and sweet. She has many faces, aspects, multitude in expression and is multidimensional.

Her mysticism lends itself to be formless…

In order for us to personally connect with the divine feminine,   its best to explore all the archetypes you are drawn to, and then awaken your own individual expression of her.

Here are some of the myriad faces of the feminine in archetype : Artemis ~ the focused free huntress, Kali/  Sekhmet ~ the expression of devotion to truth and authenticity (and pissing everyone off whilst speaking her truth), Aphrodite ~ the embodiment of beauty and Love, Sarasvati ~ the expression of creativity, Lakshmi ~ the receiving of prosperity, Ixchel ~ the medicine woman / healer, Mother Mary ~ the Divine mother , Kuan Yin ~ the practice of compassion, Mary Magdalene ~ unconditional love.

Through working with the wisdoms of each archetype, we expand our conscious awareness of who we truly are, and the true essence of multidimensionality.

What are your favourite Goddess archetypes?
Who are your favourite Divine Feminine role models?
Who are your daughters role models?

A few of my favourites are :
Archetypes in Mythology:
Aphrodite, Artemis, Rhiannon (the Celtic Goddess associated with horses) ; Kwan Yin, Mary Magdalene (Gnostic teachings not the patriarchal version), Sophia.

Literature:
Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Chameli Ardagh (creatress of Awakening Women institute), Lucia Rene (author of Unplugging the Patriarchy), Marianne Williamson, Gabrielle Bernstein (author of Spirit Junkie)
“The return of the Feminine, and the world soul” by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee.

Films:
The mists of Avalon ( every Goddess needs to see this.. it is a cellular memory trigger though…prepare yourself),
Brave (the story of the Artemis archetype)
I am looking forward to upcoming movie Split, which is a contemporary reinterpretation of the epic journey of the Sumerian Goddess Inanna and is “about reclaiming the female imagination in a male imagined world,” the renowned film director Deborah Kampmeier  said. Deborah’s passion is for telling powerful stories and narratives through women’s voices.

Current day role models:
Oprah, Louise L. Hay, Doreen Virtue, Linda Tucker (author of Mysteries of the White Lions), Laura Magdalene Eisenhauser

May we dance into harmonious, balanced, beautiful and sacred embodiment of the divine masculine and divine feminine principle!
